Germany's Ruhrgas AG, Essen, has acquired an additional 2.47 tcf of gas from the Dutch supply company, Nederlandse Gasunie.
The German company said the added supplies will stabilize current deliveries of Dutch gas beyond the turn of the century and extend existing contracts until 2013.
The agreement follows the Dutch government's decision to allocate another 7 tcf of gas for export.
In a review of future sources of gas for the company, Ruhrgas Chairman Klaus Liesen said options have been exercised for increased supplies from Troll field in the Norwegian North Sea.
He said he is unconcerned about imports from the Soviet Union. Following the declaration of sovereignty by the Russian Republic, where most of Soviet gas reserves are located, the central authorities and representatives of the republic told Ruhrgas exiting contracts will remain in force.
The Russian Republic said it wanted to be involved in negotiations of new contracts beginning in 1992.
Assessing supplies from Africa, Liesen said Ruhrgas withdrew from negotiations for Nigerian liquefied natural gas last year. However, Ruhrgas is studying the possibility of importing gas from Algeria through the proposed pipeline running from Morocco to Spain.
