German LNG Terminal GMBH has awarded a consortium of Cobra IS, a Vinci Group company, and Sener Group the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for German LNG’s 8-billion cu m/year (bcmy) regasification terminal in Brunsbüttel. The companies intend to complete construction in 2026.
Sited in northern Germany, at the mouth of the Elbe River on the North Sea, the terminal will include two 165,000-cu m storage tanks and be expandable to at least 10 bcmy. It will be equipped with two jetties, unloading arms, systems for regasification and transmission, a boil-off gas recovery system, a flare stack, auxiliary systems, and a series of buildings designed for operations.
The terminal will deliver natural gas into the German grid and will also be able to distribute LNG via trucks and rail cars.
This EPC contract is a continuation of the engineering work being carried out by the consortium. Cobra and Sener hold 62% and 38% shares of the new contract, respectively.
RWE last month signed an MoU with Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. for multiyear supply of LNG starting in 2023. Floating storage and regasification units will receive the LNG until shore-based terminals such as German LNG are complete (OGJ Online, Sept. 30, 2022).
