QatarEnergy has selected TotalEnergies SE as a 25% partner in a joint venture to develop the North Field East (NFE) LNG project. The new JV will hold a 25% interest in the total 32-million tonne/year (tpy) NFE.

NFE, launched by QatarEnergy in third-quarter 2019, is under construction and intended to increase Qatar's total LNG export capacity to 110 million tpy from 77 million tpy by 2027 via four new 8.25-million tpy trains. The offshore upstream part of the project will develop the southeastern area of North field using 8 platforms and 80 wells.

Four 38-in. OD pipelines will transport 4.6 bcfd of natural gas to the onshore LNG plant. Infield pipelines of 28-in. OD will also be part of the project.

QatarEnergy will announce additional JV agreements in the days ahead. The company earlier this year awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction contract to a JV between Técnicas Reunidas SA and Wison Engineering Services Co. for expansion of NFE’s sulfur handling, storage, and loading infrastructure within Ras Laffan Industrial City (OGJ Online, Apr. 28, 2022).
