Snam SPA has contracted Golar LNG Ltd. to deliver existing LNG carrier Golar Arctic as a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) that Snam will install in the port area of Portovesme, Sardinia, as part of an LNG terminal it’s developing. The contract includes the vessel and the cost of Golar converting the Golar Arctic into a 140,000-cu m FSRU.

Conversion will begin once Snam issues a notice to proceed and will take about 2 years to complete.

Total cost of the contract, which will transfer ownership of the vessel to Snam, is €269 million ($282.5 million).

The terminal will be Sardinia’s second. Avenir LNG owns the island’s only current LNG terminal, Higas LNG (180,000 tpy), in the Port of Oristano. It can load as many as 8,000 trucks/year via two bays for distribution to smaller satellite stations (OGJ Online, Feb. 24, 2021).
