Malaysian-state Petronas has achieved first production at its second floating LNG (FLNG) plant, the 1.5-million tonne/year PFLNG Dua making on-spec LNG from Rotan gas field, 140 km off Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. PFLNG Dua is expected to deliver its first commercial LNG cargo by mid-March 2021.
First production followed the Feb. 6, 2020, conclusion of subsea commissioning with upstream production sharing contract partner, PTT Exploration and Production.
PFLNG Dua joins PFLNG Satu, which first produced LNG from Kanowit gas field offshore Sarawak in 2016 (OGJ Online, Nov. 17, 2016) and was relocated to Kebabangan field offshore Sabah in 2019.
The new plant is capable of producing from gas fields in water depths up to 1,500 m.
