BP Mauritania Investments Ltd. has established a revised project schedule with Golar LNG Ltd. subsidiary Gimi MS Corp. for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project offshore Mauritania and Senegal, extending the target connection date for 2.5-million tonne/year floating LNG (FLNG) plant Gimi, by 11 months. Gimi previously had been scheduled for 2022 connection.
The companies also lifted the development’s force majeure status. BP declared force majeure in April, stating that the COVID-19 pandemic would prevent it from receiving Gimi by 2022 (OGJ Online, Apr. 8, 2020).
Golar subsequently began discussions with Keppel Shipyard and Black & Veatch on revising the project’s cost and schedule (OGJ Online, May 28, 2020).
Tortue field is about 75 miles offshore in 9,350 ft of water.
BP has an operating interest in Greater Tortue Ahmeyim with partners Kosmos Energy, Societe des Petroles du Senegal (Petrosen), and Société Mauritanienne Des Hydrocarbures et de Patrimoine Minier (SMPHM). The complex contains an estimated 15 tcf of natural gas.
