J. Ray McDermott Inc., Morgan City, La., has upgraded its Derrick Barge 16 to take advantage of construction opportunities in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Modifications to DB16 include installation of: four constant-pitch, 2,000-hp, DC-driven azimuthing thrusters; a dual-redundant dynamic positioning system; and a power generation module consisting of four 2,800-hp, 16-cylinder ALCO diesel engine generators, along with AC switchgear and MCC/SCR control house. The modified barge underwent sea trials in this summer in the Gulf of Mexico. Photo courtesy of J. Ray McDermott Inc.
