BP hikes global acetyls capacity

BP Chemicals Ltd. continues its global acetyls expansion, with start-up of plants in South Korea, the U.S., and China, all involving BP technology. At Ulsan, South Korea, Asian Acetyls Co., an equal joint venture of BP, Union Carbide Corp., and Samsung, started production at a 150,000 metric ton/year vinyl acetate mon- omer plant. At the Texas City, Tex., plant of Sterling Chemicals Inc., BP and Sterling have commissioned a 450,000 ton/year methanol plant to provide feedstock to the site's

BP Chemicals Ltd. continues its global acetyls expansion, with start-up of plants in South Korea, the U.S., and China, all involving BP technology.

At Ulsan, South Korea, Asian Acetyls Co., an equal joint venture of BP, Union Carbide Corp., and Samsung, started production at a 150,000 metric ton/year vinyl acetate mon- omer plant. At the Texas City, Tex., plant of Sterling Chemicals Inc., BP and Sterling have commissioned a 450,000 ton/year methanol plant to provide feedstock to the site's recently expanded 350,000 ton/year acetic acid unit.

And Shanghai-Wujing Chemicals started up a 100,000 ton/year acetic acid plant with BP technology, which is to supply central and eastern China markets.
