Area Drilling

Chauvco Resources Ltd., Calgary, plans to explore about 20 prospective leads during the next several years on its onshore 224,000 acre Remboue Permit in north central Gabon (OGJ, July 22, 1996, p. 30). A previous operator drilled eight wells and acquired 600 line km of 2D seismic data in the area in 1989-91. The 1991 Remboue discovery, the ABRE 1 well, indicated undeveloped recoverable reserves of 10-15 million bbl of 34° gravity oil at a depth of 400 m.

Chauvco will reenter the ABRE 2 appraisal well and conduct extended production tests. It has also committed to drill one 1,500 m exploration well and acquire 100 km of 2D seismic data.

Development of the Remboue discovery would cost $30-40 million (U.S.) and result in initial production of about 5,000 b/d. Oil would be barged to the Port Gentil terminal via the Remboue river and Gabon estuary.

Newfoundland

Plugging of a rank wildcat off southwestern Newfoundland does not condemn the greater western Newfoundland play, operators said.

Hunt Oil Co. and PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd. plugged the St. George's Bay A-36 offshore south of the Port au Port peninsula at TD 10,631 ft. They plan to release the Rowan Gorilla IV jackup.

The companies will evaluate a large amount of geological data the well provided before deciding how to proceed, said Russ Nawolsky, director of operations for Newfoundland Hunt Oil Co.

"While we did not find what we had hoped for, the prospect remains that commercial oil discoveries may yet be found in this area," Nawolsky said.

Gulf of Mexico

Seagull Energy Corp. and partners plan to start production before yearend from a gas discovery on Vermilion Block 75.

The 2 OCS-G-12863 well flowed 3 MMcfd of gas with 4,512 psi FTP from a lower 36 ft interval and 3.1 MMcfd of gas with 3,830 psi FTP from a higher 20 ft interval, both on 12/64 in. chokes. The well is in 24 ft of water 40 miles south of Intracoastal City, La.

Working interests are Seagull 50% and Union Oil Co. of California and Will- iams Production Co. 25% each.

Colorado

Amoco Production Co. will try again to establish Cretaceous Dakota production in the Raton basin.

The 2 Paskoski, in 29-32s-66w, in Las Animas County 16 miles west-northwest of Trinidad, is projected to 6,894 ft or Dakota, PI reported.

The location is 11/2 miles northwest of a 7,400 ft dry hole Amoco drilled in 1988. It production tested Dakota at 5,729-5,832 ft; Lower Cretaceous Purgatoire at 5,856-5,940 ft; and Triassic Dockum at 6,428-6,528 ft.

Oklahoma

Helmerich & Payne Inc., Tulsa, has drilled two offsets to an Anadarko basin discovery in Washita County.

The 1 Buddy, in 32-8n-17w, flowed 7.382 MMcfd of gas from overturned Pennsylvanian Springer perforations at 6,268-6,905 ft, PI reported.

The discovery is in the 4-5 mile gap between Rocky and South Rainey fields.

Texas

East

Samedan Oil Corp. completed a horizontal well in Fort Trinidad East field from Cretaceous Buda.

The 1-H Samedan Fee, 7 miles northwest of Weldon, pumped 949 b/d of 43.1° gravity oil with 1.11 MMcfd of gas and 1,157 b/d of water from open hole at 8,989-13,820 ft measured depth, PI reported.

Three miles west-northwest, Parten Operating, Houston, plans to reenter a Cretaceous Edwards oil well in Fort Trinidad field and horizontally drill in Cretaceous Georgetown.

Wyoming

W.A. Moncrief Jr., Fort Worth, completed the northwesternmost producing well in Waltman field in the Wind River basin.

The 1 Cave Gulch-Federal Unit, in 30-37n-86w, Natrona County, averaged 4.6 MMcfd of gas, 34 b/d of condensate, and 105 b/d of water from Upper Cretaceous Lance at an undisclosed depth, PI reported.
