Companies continue to press Gulf of Mexico pipeline projects to meet growing deepwater production.

Coastal Corp. unit ANR Pipeline Co. filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to build and operate 37 miles of 30-in. offshore and onshore pipeline looping to boost its capacity to transport Gulf of Mexico gas volumes to shore.

The project would add as much as 461 MMcfd of capacity.

ANR currently delivers 1.1 bcfd of gulf production via Eugene Island and Ship Shoal area blocks. Current maximum throughput capacity is 1.35 bcfd, ANR said.

Cost of ANR's Patterson Loop Expansion Project-also known as the Conch Project-is pegged at $51 million.

Project details

The project consists of offshore and onshore main line looping, extending from Eugene Island Block 63 to ANR's Patterson, La., compressor station. The loop pipeline would be installed parallel to two existing ANR pipelines.

No additional compression will be required.

From Patterson, ANR transports gas via 30-in., 24-in., and 20-in. pipeline, plus loops, to Eunice, La., an ANR hub, for shipment north in ANR's Southeast Main Line to Midwest and East Coast markets. Gas leaving Eunice is transported initially in two 30-in. pipelines.

ANR expects to place the project into service by summer 1998, or earlier, subject to FERC approvals.

ANR plans to conduct an open season and make the proposed expansion capacity available on a nondiscriminatory basis to any shipper that has executed a transportation service agreement. Open season will be held from Nov. 1, 1996, to Dec. 3, 1996.
