Two gas pipeline units of Coastal Corp., Houston, plan expansion projects in the U.S. Rocky Mountain region.

Wyoming Interstate Co. Ltd. (WIC) plans to expand its system by about 40%, or 192 MMcfd. Announcement of the project followed an "extremely successful" open season for additional transportation capacity conducted in January.

In addition, Colorado Interstate Gas Co. (CIG) will expand its Wind River Lateral, adding 68 MMcfd of capacity to its current 195 MMcfd. Coastal said CIG's open season for additional transportation capacity on the lateral also was "extremely successful."

With firm, long term contracts in hand, CIG and WIC planned to file for project approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Start-ups are due in first quarter 1997 for the Wind River expansion and third quarter 1997 for WIC.

The only facilities needed for the capacity expansion to Midwest markets are added compression on the CIG, WIC, and Trailblazer pipeline systems. And because WIC originally was designed to ship 1 bcfd, further expansion could be easily accommodated, Coastal said.

WIC, with a current capacity of 500 MMcfd, is the central segment of Trailblazer pipeline, an 800 mile system stretching from Southwest Wyoming to Central Nebraska. The eastern segment of Trailblazer also recently concluded a successful open season.

The Wind River Lateral runs south from Central Wyoming to CIG's compressor station near Rawlins, Wyo.
