PT Medco Energi International Tbk, Jakarta, agreed to acquire as much as an 80% working interest in and operatorship of the 11,600 sq km Rombebai block in Irian Jaya from Ramu International LLC, Denver.
The block is mostly onshore along Irian Jaya's north-central coast in the Waropen basin, east of the Bintuni and Salawati basins (see map, OGJ, June 18, 2001, p. 34).
Private Dorado Gas Resources LLC, Englewood, Colo., is testing a coalbed methane pilot project in the Forest City basin on behalf of Calpine Corp., Denver.
The project is to evaluate Pennsylvanian age coals at less than 1,200 ft in 31-56n-31w, Clinton County, about 40 miles northeast of Kansas City. Nearest recent CBM activity is 60 miles south-southwest in Miami County, Kan.
