Lasmo plc and its partners opened a second gas field on the Kirthar concession on the Kirthar fold belt in western Sindh province (see map, OGJ, Jan. 27, 1997, p. 31). The Badhra-2 wildcat, drilled to 3,495 m on a large surface anticline, found gas shows in several formations.

The Badhra-2 wildcat, drilled to 3,495 m on a large surface anticline, found gas shows in several formations.

Lasmo tested Upper Cretaceous Parh limestone and Mughal Kot sandstone through casing. Parh produced small quantities of gas. Mughal Kot flowed 10.4 MMcfd of gas with 220 psi flowing wellhead pressure. Test equipment restricted the flow rate, which Lasmo estimates could exceed 20 MMcfd. Gas contains 7% nitrogen, traces of carbon dioxide, and no hydrogen sulfide.

Shallower Pab sandstone, the reservoir at Lasmo's nearby Bhit field, could not be evaluated due to adverse drilling conditions.

Lasmo plans to appraise Mughal Kot and explore Pab and deeper horizons. It raised Bhit booked reserves by 19 MMboe to 73 MMboe as of Dec. 31, 1998, net to its 47% interest.
