CNG Producing Co. has signed a drilling contract with Chiles Offshore LLC for the use of the Chiles Columbus jack up drilling rig (see photo). The LeTourneau Enhanced/Super 116 class cantilever jack up is intended for use in up to 375 ft of water and has the capability for heavy-duty drilling. CNG will use the jack up to drill one well in 320 ft of water in the Main Pass area of the Gulf of Mexico, with an option to drill one or two more wells in the area. Work on the first well is expected to take 60 days. Both the Chiles Columbus and its sister rig, Chiles Magellan, are being built by Amfels Inc. in Brownsville, Tex. Photo courtesy of Chiles.
