Gabon
Total Gabon was starting a 4,400 sq km, 4 month 3D seismic survey on the Astrid and Anton Marin blocks off southern Gabon. Schlumberger Geco-Prakla's Geco Triton will acquire the data deploying eight streamers each 6,600 m long and with dual sources.
Indonesia
Equatorial Energy Inc., Calgary, completed five shallow wells at Tanjung Lontar field east of Bengkulu in South Sumatra for a combined 500 b/d of oil.
The company noted that its Indonesian production sharing contracts provide for an increased share of oil production during periods of low oil prices.
Sao Tome & Principe
The government granted Island Oil Exploration Ltd. the sole right for 6 months from late February 1999 to oversee financing and development of an offshore logistics center on Sao Tome island in the Gulf of Guinea.
Island Oil, domiciled in Sao Tome and led by Chris R. Hellinger, put the initial cost at $60 million. The company said such a port would provide a stable site for an industry reluctant to invest on the politically unstable West Africa mainland.
The facility would support oil and gas operations and commercial shipping with a dry dock and repair station.
