FINAL TESTING TAKES place on a giant pumpset being supplied to the Mugland basin, Sudan, oil field by Weir Pumps, Glasgow. The contract, worth about £20 million, says Weir, will supply twelve, 80-ton, high-power, crude-oil pumps with engines that can be fueled directly by crude oil as well as distillate. The first pump was delivered in October. The 1,540-km pipeline to Port Sudan on the Red Sea will move more than 150,000 b/d beginning late 1999. (Photograph courtesy the Weir Group PLC, Glasgow)
