Chemical company orders new compression equipment

DRESSER-RAND CO., OLEAN, N.Y., HAS BEEN AWARDED A CONTRACT TO supply more than $10 million in compression equipment to Dow Chemical Co.'s ethylene plant in Freeport, Tex. DRESSER-RAND CO., OLEAN, N.Y., HAS BEEN AWARDED A CONTRACT TO supply more than $10 million in compression equipment to Dow Chemical Co.'s ethylene plant in Freeport, Tex.

This project, according to Dresser-Rand, will revamp three existing compressor trains: a cracked gas train, a propylene refrigeration train, and an ethylene refrigeration train.

Dresser-Rand will supply Dow with a Datum axial split compressor and a Datum radial split centrifugal compressor. In addition, as part of the contract, existing steam turbines for each train will be rerated.

The Datum centrifugal compressors and revamp parts will be manufactured at Dresser-Rand's operation in Olean. The steam turbine components will be manufactured at the company's Wellsville, N.Y., facility.

The equipment is expected to be shipped in June 1999, and the installation is scheduled for the year 2000.
