Coflexip Stena Offshore Ltd. (CSOL), a UK unit of the Coflexip Stena Offshore Group, has been active in recovering subsea wellheads and production trees from the North Sea with its monohull well intervention vessel CSO Seawell.

CSOL says its vessel can quickly locate a wellhead and deploy specialist equipment for down hole work, offering significant commercial and operational advantages over drilling rigs.

During 2000, it signed a £3-million contract with BP for removal of wellheads from 10 suspended wells. CSOL says this contract was its first in a newly formed alliance with UWG, a Norwich, UK, company, that will take advantage of a unique UWG bottomhole assembly system for recovering wellheads.

CSOL says its goal in 2001 is to develop and provide a diverless solution for well abandonment.

The wellheadss scheduled for removal during 2000 were located throughout the North Sea southern, central, and northern sectors and in areas West of Shetland.
