Simon Petroleum Technology Ltd. of Llandudno, North Wales, has begun to assimilate the first stage of what it hopes will become a worldwide digitized well database.
SPT is taking released well data from Norsk Hydro AS and Saga Petroleum AS relating to oil and gas wells on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Wireline log runs for each well are joined and edited to give continuous data for each well, in a standard format.
ln all, Hydro and Saga have provided information on 600-700 wells for collating in preparation for future bidding rounds. Because of the standardization, SPT says that information from different companies could be compared as the database grows.
Other North Sea companies are being approached with regard to entering the project. Companies are billed on a per well basis. While costs differ from well to well, it is believed that the costs work out to about 1 pence/ft (2/ft) for data, SPT said.
