Refiners in Thailand and Australia have let contracts to M.W. Kellogg Co.
In Thailand, Kellogg is performing front end engineering design for the grassroots Star Petroleum Refinery, a joint venture of Caltex and Petroleum Authority of Thailand. Construction is expected to begin in mid-1993, with start-up scheduled for 1996.
The refinery, in Rayong province on Thailand's eastern seaboards will have a design capacity of 130,000 b/sd. Land reclamation for the plant, to be part of the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, is expected to begin in third quarter 1992.
In Australia, BP Refinery (Bulwer Island) Pty. Ltd. chose Kellogg to upgrade a fluid catalytic cracking unit at its Brisbane refinery. Kellogg will engineer, procure, and provide construction and start-up advisory services for the project.
Engineering is under way. The project is scheduled for completion in 1993.
As part of the upgrade, BP will incorporate key elements of Kellogg's catalytic cracking technology, including Mobil Corp.'s closed cyclone technology. An external riser with advanced feed injection and improved regenerator air distribution will be included.
Kellogg designed the refinery in the 1960s.
