Thailand plans a new oil and gas concession licensing round this year.
The new round would allow new operators to take over relinquished acreage or obtain concessions not taken in the previous bidding round, the 13th.
Visith Noiphan, Director General of the Department of Mineral Resources, said DMR will schedule the 1992 round as soon as it signs the final concession agreements with eight remaining awardees from the 13th round. Nine companies to date have signed final agreements on 13th round concessions (OGJ, Sept. 23, 1991, p. 12).
In all, 71 onshore and offshore blocks relinquished or left over from the 13th round are available for tender.
DMR contends the good hydrocarbon potential of available concession areas and recently sweetened concession terms will attract a fair amount of interest in the next round.
