Poland plans to conduct a second bidding round for oil and gas exploration during first half 1993.

Polish officials are extremely encouraged by results of the country's first oil and gas and coalbed methane licensing rounds conducted this year, says the Bureau of Geological Concessions in the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Natural Resources, and Forestry.

Major international companies including Shell, Esso, Amoco, British Gas, and Conoco, several smaller companies, two Polish-U.S. joint ventures, and one Polish firm have submitted bids for all 11 blocks offered in the coalbed methane licensing round and eight of the 32 blocks offered in the conventional round (see maps, OGJ, July 20, 1992, p. 40, and July 22, 1991, p. 36).

The successful companies will be invited to visit Warsaw before yearend 1992 to negotiate contracts with the ministry. The location of second round blocks and details of data package availability will be announced early in 1993.

Contact with the ministry is through Marek Hoffmann, director, Bureau of Geological Concessions, Wawelska 52/54, 00-922 Warsaw. Telephone and fax number is 28 44 25 15 03.
