BP TESTS OIL, GAS AT CUSIANA WELLS IN COLOMBIA

BP TESTS

Tests of 1 BP's Buenos Aires on the Tauramena association contract area yielded a combined 6,999 b/d of oil/condensate and 16 MMcfd of gas. Here are the gauges:

  • 1,539 b/d of 25-27 gravity oil and 1.4 MMcfd of gas with 1,350 psi flowing tubing pressure from two Paleocene Barco intervals at 15,030-120 ft.

  • 4,340 b/d of 33-36 gravity oil and 8.1 MMcfd of gas from two Eocene Mirador intervals at 14,325-580 ft.

  • 1,120 b/d of 41 gravity condensate and 6.5 MMcfd of gas from Mirador at 14,220-240 ft.

All tests were conducted through a 1/2 in. choke. Flowing tubing pressures on the Mirador tests ranged from 1,350 to 950 psi.

BP's 2A Cusiana on the Santiago de las Atalayas association contract area flowed a combined 1,878 b/d of 39-44 gravity condensate and 13.48 MMcfd of gas through a 117. in. choke from two Mirador intervals below 13,160 ft.

Both wells are suspended.

BP has moved the rig from 1 Buenos Aires to a site 4 km northwest where the company plans to spud 2 Buenos Aires at the end of this month. The rig from 2A Cusiana spudded 3 Cusiana Feb. 17 at a site 8 km north-northeast.

About 75% of Cusiana field lies on the 92,455 acre Santiago de las Atalayas contract area in the Llanos foothills, 160 km northeast of Bogota (see map, OGJ, Jan. 20, p. 68). The southern end of the field is on the 38,894 acre Tauramena contract area.

BP and Total Exploratie Mij. BV each own a 40% interest in Cusiana field and Triton Colombia Inc. 20%.

Colombia's state owned Ecopetrol has a right to take a 50% interest in any discovery deemed worthy of commercial development.

BP also owns 100% interests in license areas Pauto, Tamara, and Sacama, covering a combined 2,900 sq km north of Cusiana.

FIELD DEVELOPMENT

Royal Dutch/Shell unit Hocol SA reported approval of its Saldana River oil development program by Ecopetrol. Production from three wells will begin by midyear.

Hocol said it may drill other wells when a 3-D seismic survey is complete. Hocol has a 55% interest in Saldana River, Triton 45%.

Triton also holds a 40% interest in Hocol's 1 Montanuelo in the Upper Magdalena Valley, which flowed 12.4 MMcfd of gas at 3,400 ft. Hocol holds the remaining interest.

The well is on the San Luis Association contract area in Tolima province.
