KomiArcticOil JSC has let a 3 year drilling contract to Parker Drilling Co., Tulsa, for an oil field development program in Russia's Far North.
Parker will provide an arctic class land rig with crews for operations in Upper Vozey field, about 40 miles south of the Arctic Circle. The drilling program calls for a series of wells as deep as 13,120 ft to boost production in the field, which produces about 20,000 b/d at present.
Drilling is to get under way late in August.
Parker is mobilizing equipment from the U.S., drilling operations in Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan, and former drillsites in western Siberia for KomiArcticOil.
KomiArcticOil is a joint venture of British Gas of London and Russia's Komineft.
Parker's expatriate field and rig managers will supervise national crews that have been working on the joint venture's Russian rigs.
In addition to the rig and crews, Parker will train Russian rig crews, manage logistics, and provide a camp and mobile equipment.
KomiArcticOil-Parker contract talks began in 1991. At that time, Gulf Canada Ltd. was the lead wester partner in the joint venture. British Gas bought an interest a year late then this year bought most of Gulf Canada's interest. British Gas no owns a 50% interest in KomiArcticOil.
