Commissioning occurred in early 1994 on a 277-mile extension of a petroleum products pipeline in Kenya.

The new 6-8 in. line runs from Nairobi to Eldoret (202 miles) with a 75 mile, 6-in. branch to Kisumu. The existing line runs from Mombasa to Nairobi (OGJ, Feb. 25, 1991, p. 21).

Line capacity is more than 38,000 b/d. It transports mainly two grades of gasoline, dual-purpose kerosine, and diesel oil. Deliveries are made at Nakuru, Eldoret, and Kisumu.

From Kisumu and Eldoret, products may also be exported to Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and northern Tanzania.

NKK Corp., Tokyo, designed and managed construction on the line.

The company also supplied the API 5L X-52 ERW pipe with 8 in. sections varying 0.277-0.156 in. W.T.; the 6-in. sections varied 0.2030.156 in. W.T. The pipe was externally coated at the mill with a double layer of polyethylene.
