U.K. AWARDS LAST OF 16TH ROUND LICENSES

Britain's Department of Trade & Industry has awarded 53 more blocks in its 16th offshore exploration round (17894 bytes) , boosting the total number of block awards under the round to 79. Twenty-six blocks in the West of Shetland exploration hotspot were awarded in May so operators could plan and implement exploration programs during this year's weather window (OGJ, May 29, p. 24). The latest licenses are for acreage in the North Sea and to the west and south of Britain.

Twenty-six blocks in the West of Shetland exploration hotspot were awarded in May so operators could plan and implement exploration programs during this year's weather window (OGJ, May 29, p. 24).

The latest licenses are for acreage in the North Sea and to the west and south of Britain.

They will result in the shooting of more than 3,500 sq km of 3D seismic surveys and 4,000 line km of 2D seismic surveys, said Richard Page, junior minister for energy Companies also will drill 13 wells in the next 2 years and nine more during the rest of the 6 year phase of the licenses.

Tracts awarded in the entire round carry obligations for 7,500 sq km of 3D seismic surveys and 50 wells.
