Pair of products systems taking shape in Brazil
State owned Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) is laying two petroleum product lines along the eastern coast of Brazil.
In Bahia state, starting at the Madre de Deus terminal near state capital Salvador, a 38912 km (242 mile), 10 and 8 in. line will carry diesel, gasoline, LPG, and alcohol to markets in the southern part of the state.
Farther south, in Santa Catarina and Parana states, a 263 km (163 mile), 10 and 8 in. pipeline will carry the same products and jet fuel from the Pres. Getulio Vargas refinery, southwest of Parana's capital, Curitiba, to Florianopolis and markets en route.
Start-up for both lines is set for October.
Orsub project
Petrobras' Reconcavo/Sul da Bahia (Orsub) project will consist of 224 km of 10 in. coal-tar coated API 5L grade X-65 pipe. This segment will run to near Ipiau and be able to deliver as much as 25,000 b/d. Wall thicknesses will vary from 0.438 in. and 0.203 in.
At Ipiau, two 8 in. segments will split supply. A 7312 km, 0.188 in. W.T. line will continue to Jequie. A second 0.188 in. W.T. line, this one 92 km long, will carry product to Itabuna. Each line will be able to deliver as much as 12,500 b/d.
Pump stations will be built at the Madre de Deus terminal and at Ipiau. Storage tanks will be built at Jequie and Itabuna.
Confab, Sao Paulo, supplied the line pipe. Construction is by Mendes Junior, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais state. Pumps supplied by Weir Co. of Scotland are being built by Engeneering, Sao Paulo.
Opasc pipeline
Petrobras' Parana/Santa Catarina (Opasc) pipeline will consist of 197 km of 10 in. coal-tar coated API 5L grade X-65 pipe with wall thicknesses of 0.279, 0.250, 0.219, and 0.203 in.
This segment will extend from the Pres. Getulio Vargas refinery immediately north of Araucaria, Parana state, to a pump station and terminal near Itajai, Santa Catarina state, on the Atlantic coast. Line capacity will be 9,500 b/d.
The remaining 66 km of 8 in., 0.188 in. W.T. line will continue to Biguacu terminal north of Florianopolis with delivery capacity of 10,500 b/d.
A pump station and tanks will be built at Guaramirim, about midway between the refinery and Itajai.
Confab also supplied line pipe for the Opasc project. Construction is by Damulakis, Salvador. Sulzer, Pindamonhangaba, Sao Paulo, is supplying pumps that are being installed by Ultratec, Sao Paulo.
Mathias Eng., Sao Paulo, is supplying material for and building the storage tanks at Jequie and Itabuna on the Orsub project and at the refinery, as well as at Guaramirim, Itajai, and Biguacu.
