CONTRACTS LET FOR SOUTHERN U.S. PIPELINE PROJECT

Florida Gas Transmission Co. (FGT) has chosen contractors for its Phase III interstate pipeline expansion and let contracts worth a combined $320 million. Construction of increased compression included in the $900 million, 530 MMcfd project is to begin this month and pipelaying in late March or early April. Construction of increased compression included in the $900 million, 530 MMcfd project is to begin this month and pipelaying in late March or early April.

Phase Ill contractors are to lay 815 miles of 36 in., 30 in., 26 in., and smaller line in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida (OGJ, Feb. 7, p. 23). Eleven compressor stations are to be built or expanded along the four state route, adding 16 compressors and a combined 106,870 hp,

When the project is complete by yearend, FGT's share of Florida's energy, markets will increase to 15% from 11%.

Companies chosen to lay FGT's Phase III pipelines are:

  • H.C. Price Co., Dallas, Spread 1 from Jefferson Davis Parish, La., to Perry, County, Miss., Spread 6 from Suwanee County, Fla., to Citrus County, Fla., and Spread 7 from Citrus County to Hillsborough County, Fla.

  • Murphy Bros. Inc., East Moline, III., Spread 2 from Perry County to Santa Rosa County, Fla., Spread 3 from Santa Rosa County to Calhoun County, Fla., Spread 4 from Calhoun County, to Leon County, Fla., and Spread 5 from Leon County to Suwanee County.

  • Latex Construction Co., Conyers, Ga., Spread 8 from Orange County, Fla., to Palm Beach County, Fla., and Spread 9 laterals in Central Florida.

    Phase III compressor station contractors are:

  • W.H.C. Inc., Lafayette, La., for construction of 19,500 hp Station 75 in St. Landry Parish, La., and 6,000 hp expansions at Station 8 in East Baton Rouge Parish, La., and at Station 9 in Washington Parish, La.

  • Ranger Plant Construction Co. Inc., Abilene, Tex., for expansions of 8,000 hp at Station 10 in Perry County, 25,200 hp at Station 11 in Mobile County, Ala., 5,000 hp at Station 19 in Brevard County, Fla., and 4,000 hp at Station 20 in St. Lucie County, Fla.

  • Bluewater Constructors Inc., Houston, for construction of 6,500 hp Station 26 in Citrus County and expansions of 12,600 hp at Station 15 in Taylor County, Fla., and 1,070 hp at Station 30 in Hillsborough County.

  • Piute Contractors Inc., Ocala, Fla., for construction of 13,000 hp Station 21 in Palm Beach County.

FGT is a unit of Citrus Corp., Houston. Citrus in turn is owned jointly by Sonat Inc., Birmingham, Ala., and a unit of Enron Corp., Houston.
