President Trump elevates Christie to FERC chairman

President Trump elevated Republican Mark Christie to chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

President Donald Trump elevated Republican Mark Christie to chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). He replaces Democrat Willie Phillips.

Such a move is expected when a new president is of a different political party than the prior president.

Christie said his priorities include protecting consumers from excessive power costs, addressing the electricity reliability problems exacerbated by retirements of generation units, and urging states and their utility regulators to address reliability and energy-cost issues.

Christie began his term as a FERC Commissioner on Jan. 4, 2021. He was nominated by President Trump in July 2020 and confirmed by the US Senate on Nov. 30, 2020.
