Bids are due in November in an oil and gas licensing round covering most of Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost member of the United Arab Emirates.
The government opened data rooms in the emirate and London last month for seven blocks, four in shallow water and three onshore. The blocks cover 4,340 sq km.
The new RAK Petroleum Authority is managing the round, which is based on a new exploration and production-sharing agreement.
RAK’s offshore Saleh field, discovered in 1964, produced natural gas and condensate intermittently during 1984-2016 (OGJ Online, Apr. 20, 2012). It’s on Block 2. An undeveloped oil and gas discovery designated RAK B is on Block 1, also offshore (OGJ Online, June 1, 2006).
A 2,200-sq-km broadband seismic survey shot this year covered all the blocks.
Letters of interest are due in August. The authority will hold clarification sessions in September.
