LLOG Exploration has extended its position in the deepwater Western Gulf of Mexico with the acquisition of 41 blocks.

LLOG Exploration Co. LLC has extended its position in the deepwater Western Gulf of Mexico with the acquisition of 41 blocks in the East Breaks and Alaminos Canyon area.

LLOG is operator and 100% working interest owner in all 41 blocks, which encompass 236,000 acres, the company said in a release July 17.

The acreage sits north of LLOG’s Blacktip and Blacktip North deepwater discoveries in Alaminos Canyon blocks 335, 336, 337, 380, 381, and 424. The operator drilled a successful sidetrack on the Blacktip discovery in third-quarter 2023 and plans to drill an appraisal well at Blacktip North in this year’s third quarter.

Shell plc discovered Blacktip and Blacktip North in 2019, but in 2023, the company, along with Equinor, exited the prospect which is now operated by LLOG in a 50-50 partnership with Repsol (OGJ Online, Apr. 4, 2019; Dec. 8, 2021).
