Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd. subsidiary Canadianoxy Offshore International Ltd. has tested a third discovery in eastern Yemen.
At 2 Camaal, drilled to 6,234 ft, 36 gravity oil filled the pipe to within 1,670 ft of the surface on a cased hole drillstem test at 5,827-40 ft. During a second test, at 5,487-5,514 ft, 28 gravity oil filled the pipe to within 1,549 ft of surface.
CanadianOxy said electric log analysis indicates a net oil pay of 96 1/2 ft in a gross interval of 285 1/2 ft.
The wildcat is on the 6.8 million acre Masila block, site of two other discoveries by CanadianOxy and partners Consolidated Contractors International Co. SAL and Pecten Yemen Co.
The 2 Camaal is on a separate structure 15 km south of the 1 Sunah wildcat (OGJ, Feb. 11, p. 33) and 9 km north of the combine's 1 Heijah discovery (OGJ, Apr. 8, p. 39).
A second test on the Camaal structure will commence when operations are complete at 2 Camaal.
The group plans further drilling and testing to determine reservoir extent and the commercial potential of the area.
Meantime, two seismic crews will operate throughout the rest of the year, and two more drilling rigs will begin operation late this month to evaluate new prospects and existing discoveries.
