Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd. has disclosed an oil flow of more than 3,700 b/d at a wildcat in eastern Yemen.

The well, 1 Sunah, was cased for evaluation tests after a brief open hole drillstem test at 2,683-94 m flowed 36 gravity oil to surface (OGJ, Jan. 14, Newsletter).

On the first followup test, a drillstem test at 1,702-08 m, the hole filled with 30 gravity oil to within 330 m of the surface. On the next test, a cased hole drillstem test of the original interval at 2,683-94 m, the well flowed at an estimated rate of 3,767 b/d of 36 gravity oil for 12 hr through a 7/8 in. choke with 378 psi flowing tubing pressure.

Canadian Oxy disclosed the test results on behalf of its wholly owned subsidiary CanadianOxy Offshore International Ltd. and partners Consolidated Contractors International Co. SAL and Pecten Yemen Co.

The well is the first wildcat drilled on the combine's 6.8 million acre Masila block.

Further drilling and testing will be required to determine the extent of the reservoir and the commercial potential of the discovery, Canadian Oxy said.

The rig is moving to a separate structure about 20 km south of 1 Sunah.
