ConocoPhillips names Mulva as chairman
The board of ConocoPhillips has elected James J. Mulva to succeed Archie W. Dunham as chairman upon Dunham's retirement in September. Mulva also will continue to serve as president and CEO.

Mulva's succession as chairman is consistent with the terms of the ConocoPhillips merger agreement, the company said.
Dunham also has elected to retire from the board when he retires from the company.
Other moves
Shell UK Ltd. announced that James Smith, the head of executive resourcing and organization for Royal Dutch/Shell Group, will take up the position of country chairman for Shell UK.
Smith's appointment follows the appointment of Clive Mather, current chairman of Shell UK, to president and CEO of Shell Canada (OGJ Online, May 25, 2004).
Smith joined Shell in 1983. Prior to his current position, he was responsible for technology and strategy in Shell's global chemicals business.
Michael J. Dolan will succeed Daniel S. Sanders as president, ExxonMobil Chemical Co., and vice-president, Exxon Mobil Corp., effective Sept. 1.
Sanders will retire Aug. 31 after more than 43 years of service with the company.
In the interim, Dolan will become executive vice-president, ExxonMobil Chemical. Dolan is currently deputy to the president of ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Co. During Dolan's career, he has managed many of the major product groups in ExxonMobil Chemical and served as its regional director for the Middle East and Africa.
Stephen D. Pryor, currently executive vice-president, ExxonMobil Chemical, will succeed Dolan as deputy to the president.
Dale R. Laurance, president of Occidental Petroleum Corp. and head of its oil and gas operations, has announced his plan to retire Dec. 31. Laurance will relinquish his oil and gas duties effective immediately but will continue to serve as president and remain on Oxy's board.
Ray R. Irani, Oxy's chairman and CEO, will assume the additional title of president on Jan. 1, 2005. The board also has promoted Stephen I. Chazen to senior executive vice-president and chief financial officer.
John W. Morgan has been promoted to president, Occidental Oil & Gas Corp. Morgan, who formerly was responsible for the company's worldwide oil and gas production and engineering operations, remains an executive vice-president of Oxy.
In addition, R. Casey Olson, a vice-president of Oxy, has been promoted to president, Occidental Development Co.
