Malaysia's Petronas Carigali, Occidental Petroleum Corp., and Nippon Gas are conducting a study of the feasibility of building a third liquefied natural gas complex in Malaysia.

Such plans were given a boost with results from Ow's 2 Jintan appraisal well, which flowed 64.4 MMcfd of gas and 620 b/d of condensate off Sarawak (OGJ, Nov. 9, p. 40). Oxy said the appraisal doubled reserves estimates for Jintan to about 4 tcf of gas and 75 million bbl of condensate. The jintan wells lie on Block SK-8 about 280 km off Sarawak.

The study will focus on long term regional gas supply and demand for LNG, encompassing those parameters for Malaysia's existing LNG plants at Arun and Bintulu (OGJ, Nov. 16, p. 27).

It also will examine options for plant size, location, and markets.
