QatarEnergy acquires interest in deepwater Namibia block

QatarEnergy agreed to acquire working interest in Block 2813B offshore Namibia from a Chevron subsidiary.

QatarEnergy has entered into an agreement with Harmattan Energy Ltd. (HEL), an indirect subsidiary of Chevron Corp., to acquire a working interest in the petroleum exploration license (PEL) and petroleum agreement for Block 2813B (PEL0090), offshore Namibia.

Block 2813B lies in 2,400-3,300 m of water about 200 km offshore Namibia and about 70 km north of QatarEnergy’s Venus discovery. The license covers an area of 5,433 sq km.

HEL is operator of the block and will retain 52.5% interest. QatarEnergy will acquire a 27.5% interest with block partners Trago Energy Ltd. (10%) and the National Petroleum Corp. of Namibia (NAMCOR) (10%).
