ADNOC lets contract to expand large 3D seismic survey across Abu Dhabi

ADNOC let a contract to a subsidiary of CNPC, worth up to $490 million to expand the scope of a combined 3D onshore and offshore seismic survey currently under way in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

ADNOC has let a contract to BGP Inc., a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Co. (CNPC), worth up to $490 million (AED1.79 billion), to expand the scope of a combined 3D onshore and offshore seismic survey currently under way in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The contract will focus on identifying additional oil and gas resources in ADNOC’s producing onshore fields, the operator said in a release Nov. 6.

ADNOC and BGP “will leverage advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools to accelerate interpretation of the seismic data, maximize resource recovery and the use of existing infrastructure in producing fields to enhance efficiencies,” the company continued.

The 3D Mega Seismic Survey project was initiated by ADNOC in late 2018. At that time, ADNOC let contracts worth $1.6 billion for the survey that then was anticipated to cover as much as 53,000 sq km and pinpoint potential reservoirs at depths of up to 25,000 ft (OGJ Online, July 19, 2018).

In its latest release, ADNOC said the survey, covering 85,000 sq km, is designed to provide high-resolution and high-fold 3D seismic data, offering a comprehensive understanding of the region’s complex geological structures.
