Rockhopper receives extensions for Falkland Island basin licenses
Rockhopper Exploration PLC has been granted extensions to North and South Falkland basin petroleum production licenses after discussions with the Falkland Islands government. The licenses will now run until Dec. 31, 2026.
The company had a previous extension to Dec. 3, 2024, of its South Falkland basin production licenses aimed at allowing time to progress the company’s understanding of prospective licenses in the southern portion of the basin, particularly PL011 which adjoins Borders & Southern Petroleum PLC’s Darwin gas condensate discovery (OGJ Online, Nov. 30, 2022).
Rockhopper holds 35% interest in license PL032 and PL033 in Northern Falkland basin. These blocks were previously licensed to Shell and are in water depths of less than 550 m. PL032 contains Sea Lion field, which was discovered by Rockhopper in 2010 and extends into license PL004.
In South Falkland basin, Rockhopper is operator of licenses PL011, PL012, and PL014 with 100% working interest.
