Santos Ltd. has decommissioned the Campbell platform and associated offshore infrastructure at the Varanus Island hub in Western Australia.

McDermott Inc. performed engineering, procurement, removal, and transportation of the platform topsides, substructure, and associated items to an onshore plant for dismantling and disposal under a contract awarded by Santos (OGJ Online, Nov. 21, 2023).

The Campbell platform, a monopod structure secured to the seabed by three piled legs, has minimal topside equipment. It lies in Carnarvon basin, about 105 km west-northwest of Dampier.

Decommissioning was performed with a custom-built lifting cradle. Designed and constructed at McDermott's Batam fabrication yard, with engineering support from teams in Perth, Australia; Chennai, India; and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; the lifting cradle was specifically engineered to address the unique complexities of the platform's upper substructure.
