NextDecade Corp. subsidiary Rio Grande LNG Train 4 LLC has executed a lump sum turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with Bechtel Energy Inc. for construction of Train 4 and related infrastructure at the 27-million tonne/year (tpy) Rio Grande LNG plant under construction in Brownsville, Tex.
Rio Grande LNG Train 4 agreed to pay Bechtel about $4.3 billion for the work under the EPC contract for Train 4. NextDecade currently projects that owner’s costs, contingencies, financing fees and interest during construction will total about $1.7-1.9 billion. Total estimated project costs are expected to be $6-6.2 billion for Train 4 and related infrastructure, in line with the per train cost of the three-train Phase 1 currently under construction. Bechtel is Rio Grande LNG’s Phase 1 EPC contractor.
A positive final investment is targeted for second-half 2024.
Rio Grande LNG will use 5 trains, with Trains 1-3 (Phase 1) expected to enter service in 2027, at a total nameplate capacity of 17.61 million tpy. Phase 1 will also include two 180,000-cu m full containment LNG storage tanks, and two jetty berthing structures designed to load LNG carriers up to 216,000 cu m in capacity.
