Shell UK appoints new Chairman

Shell UK Ltd. announced that head of executive resourcing and organization for the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies, James Smith, will take up the position of country chairman, Shell UK Ltd. effective August 1st.

HOUSTON, July 7 -- Shell UK Ltd. announced that head of executive resourcing and organization for the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies, James Smith, will take up the position of country chairman, Shell UK Ltd. effective August 1st.

Smith's appointment follows the announcement in May 2004 that Clive Mather, current chairman, Shell UK Ltd., will be appointed by Shell Canada's board as Shell Canada's president and CEO. (OGJ Online, May 25, 2004)

Smith joined Shell in 1983. Prior to taking up his position as head of executive resourcing and organisation, he was responsible for technology and strategy in Shell's global chemicals business.
