A partnership of the Oil & Gas Technology Center (OGTC), Aberdeen, and oil and gas companies will create a research center aiming to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions from the UK Continental Shelf.
The Net Zero Solution Center will “accelerate the development and deployment of technologies to decarbonize offshore operations and develop the UKCS as the first net zero oil and gas basin globally,” the OGTC said in a press release.
Companies backing the center include BP, Shell, Wood, Chrysaor, Aker Solutions, Ineos, CNOOC International, Total, Siemens, and Equinor.
“The Net Zero Solution Center will work with government and industry to address the UK offshore oil and gas industry’s emission footprint while also developing technologies that will contribute to the growing demand for hydrogen production and carbon sequestration,” the OGTC statement said.
Launch of the new center was announced at the Offshore Europe conference.
OGTC began life in October 2016 as part of the Aberdeen City Region Deal, a development initiative supported by the Scottish and UK governments, Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council, and Opportunity North East.
