Murphy discovers oil in Cuu Long basin

Murphy Oil drilled an oil discovery at the Hai Su Vang-1X exploration well in Block 15-2/17 in Cuu Long basin, 40 miles offshore Vietnam.

Murphy Oil Corp. drilled an oil discovery at the Hai Su Vang-1X exploration well in Block 15-2/17 in Cuu Long basin, 40 miles offshore Vietnam. The company is currently evaluating results and will conduct future appraisal drilling. Resource potential is currently estimated at 170-430MMboe. 

The well, which was spudded in third-quarter 2024, was drilled to total depth of 13,124 ft in 149 ft of water. Hai Su Vang-1X encountered about 370 ft of net oil pay from two reservoirs. 

Hai Su Vang is one of multiple exploration prospects that Murphy has identified in the basin,a and this discovery could lead to future development in Hai Su Vang field.

Murphy Cuu Long Tay Oil Co. Ltd., a Murphy subsidiary, is operator of Block 15-2/17 (40%) with partners PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corp. Ltd. (35%) and SK Earthon Co. Ltd. (25%).
