Sawan South JV finds hydrocarbons, derisks block in Pakistan

The Sawan South Joint Venture discovered hydrocarbons in Sindh Province, Pakistan.

The Sawan South Joint Venture discovered hydrocarbons at the Akhiro-1 exploratory well in District Khairpur, Sindh Province, Pakistan, derisking further exploration in Sawan South block, the JV said in a release.

The well was spudded on June 15, 2024, and has been drilled to 12,442 ft MD. The well was tested at the rate around 10 MMscfd gas on a 24/64-in. choke and 4,000-psi wellhead flowing pressure.

United Energy Pakistan Ltd. (UEPL) is operator of the Sawan South Joint Venture with 75% interest. Partners are Oil and Gas Development Co. Ltd. (OGDCL, 20%), Government Holding Private Ltd. (GHPL, 2.5%), and Sindh Energy Holding Ltd. (SEHL, 2.5%).
