Canacol Energy Ltd., Calgary, made a gas discovery at its Siku 1 exploration well in Colombia. The company completed casing the well and will return with a workover rig in early 2022 to complete and tie the well into permanent production.

Siku 1 was spudded on Nov. 12 and reached total depth of 8,825 ft measured depth on Nov. 20. It encountered 33 ft true vertical depth of net gas pay with an average porosity of 20% within the primary Cienaga de Oro sandstone reservoir target.

In November, the company’s overall gas sales averaged 182 MMscfd. Realized contractual natural gas sales (gas produced, delivered, and paid for) were 182 MMscfd for November.

Remaining 2021 drilling program

The rig is currently mobilizing to drill the Clarinete 6 development well, which will target gas bearing sandstones within the CDO sandstone reservoir, the main producer within Clarinete gas field. Clarinete 6 is expected to take about 5 weeks to drill and complete and will be tied into permanent production by late January 2022.

Canacol operates over 1.5 million net acres in 10 exploration and production gas contracts in Colombia in the Lower and Middle Magdalena basin.
