OMV Petrom advances Neptun Deep development with new contracts

OMV Petrom has let contracts totaling more than $10 million to Expro for the Neptun Deep gas project in the Black Sea.

The two contracts involve Expro’s subsea landing string, cementing technology, tubular running services, and drilling tools to support Neptun Deep, the largest natural gas project in the Romanian Black Sea and the first deepwater offshore project in Romania.

The 7,500 sq km Neptun Deep block lies about 160 km from shore in water depths of 100-1,000 m and is estimated to hold total volume of about 100 billion cu m of natural gas.

Final investment decision on the project was taken in 2023, with the award of all major contracts completed in 2024. First gas is expected in 2027 (OGJ Online, June 21, 2023; Dec. 12, 2023).

Exploration, development, and production rights are held in a 50-50 partnership between OMV Petrom (operator) and Romgaz.
