Hess Corp. wants to continue exploring Block 59 offshore Suriname and has been given until July 2025 to find a partner for the block and enter the next phase in the exploration period.
Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname NV, in a release late last week, said Hess, now the only company in the block following exits by ExxonMobil Corp. and Equinor, is looking for a partner.
The 4,400 sq-km block, considered a frontier deepwater area, lies in the extreme northwest area offshore Suriname, in 2,000-3,600 m of water.
In 2018, Staatsolie granted the Block 59 production sharing contract (PSC) to ExxonMobil, Hess, and Equinor (OGJ Online July 13, 2017). ExxonMobil and Equinor transferred their respective interests in the block in July 2024.
