Petrobras to conduct 4D seismic in Búzios field

Aug. 16, 2024
The operator expects to begin survey operations in the coming months to help identify new project opportunities for the field.

Petrobras will start a seismic survey at Búzios field, in Santos basin offshore Brazil, after obtaining an environmental license from the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama).

This is the second OBN Ocean Botton Nodes (OBN) acquisition in the field and the first for 4D monitoring, the operator said in a release Aug. 16. 4D seismic monitors pressure changes and provides connectivity information to optimize reservoir management. The project will deposit 3,500 sensor nodes in an area of 780 sq km on the seabed.

The objective is to generate data to identify the distribution of oil, gas, and water in the reservoir. The equipment will be able to map oil deposits in the presalt, in an area of 330 sq km of geological interest where most of Petrobras’ production is currently concentrated, said Wagner Victer, the company’s executive manager of the field.

Seismic acquisition is expected to start between September and October 2024 and will take place over 8 months.

Located 180 km off the coast, Búzios field this year reached 1 billion bbl of oil produced since it began operating in 2018.
