Algeria's Sonatrach has an oil discovery on block 427, Hassi Dzabal permit, in the Oued Mya basin. The Hassi Terfa North 1 was drilled to 3,700 m TD and tested at 6 cu m/hr of oil and 445 cu m of gas. It was the sixth discovery that Sonatrach made working alone in 2000.

Blue Dolphin Energy Co. has identified an additional productive sand in the High Island Block A-7 field in the Gulf of Mexico. The High Island A-7 No. 3 well found pay in the Rob M sand, in addition to productive sands in the Rob L-3, Rob L-3 (lower), and Rob L-5 intervals.

Seven Seas Petroleum Inc., Houston, said Jan. 4 it had resumed trucking crude from Guaduas oil field in Colombia. The field was shut down in December to complete a pressure buildup test (OGJ Online, Dec. 1, 2000).

Canadian company Meteor Creek Resources Inc. spudded a wildcat at the Bear River prospect near Souris, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Goal is 10,000 ft.

TotalFinaElf SA discovered indications of good quality oil 150 km offshore Rio de Janeiro state in Campos basin. Tests of the well, in 2,485 m of water, are ongoing. The discovery is on Block BC-2, a license operated by TotalFinaElf with 35%; Petroleo Brasileiro SA, 35%; Enterprise Oil PLC, 15%; and Royal Dutch/Shell Group, 15%.
