An Amoco Production Co. unit has signed a protocol with the U.S.S.R.'s State Gas Business Concern covering possible joint venture oil and gas development in western Siberia.

The protocol signed by Amoco Eurasia Petroleum Co. calls for Amoco to conduct a preliminary study, followed by a detailed study of technical and economic feasibility of developing and producing several fields in western Siberia in cooperation with Soviet agencies. It also spells out guidelines covering an eventual joint venture agreement. Amoco also is talking with several Soviet agencies covering oil and gas exploration and development elsewhere in the U.S.S.R.

Meantime, Louisiana Land & Exploration Co. will participate in a joint Soviet-U.S. internship program for Soviet petroleum specialists. Soviet oil and gas specialists will work in LL&E offices for at least 3-6 months for onsite management and technical training.

LL&E hopes that the program will lead joint venture exploration opportunities with the Soviets.
